    Geschiedenis

    Het verhaal van Azelia begon in 1920 toen Cavalier Lorenzo Scavino besloot wijn te gaan maken van de wijngaarden van zijn familie in het gewaardeerde Barolo-hart van Castiglione Falletto. Al snel begon zijn zoon, Alfonso, de wijn van het domein te bottelen en kort daarna werden de Azelia-wijnen voor het eerst geëxporteerd. Tegenwoordig staat het domein onder de visionaire leiding van Luigi Scavino, die onvermoeibaar heeft gewerkt om Azelia om te vormen tot een van de meest gewilde producenten van Barolo.

    Azelia eigenaar Luigi Scavino is de neef en buurman van de legendarische Barolo producent Enrico Scavino en in de afgelopen jaren is hij erin geslaagd zijn landgoed om te vormen tot een van de leading lights van de Piemonte. Belangrijke veranderingen zijn onder meer het matigen van het gebruik van eikenhout, zodat tijdens de rijpingsperiode niet meer dan 25% nieuwe eikenhouten vaten worden gebruikt, en het gebruik van traditionele grote eikenhouten botti om de impact van het eikenhout verder te verzachten. Het landgoed wordt ook biologisch bewerkt en alle handelingen in de wijnmakerij worden handmatig uitgevoerd.
