    Witte mengsels

    Terwijl rode blends overal ter wereld populair zijn, blijven witte wijnblends voor veel wijndrinkers onder de radar. Dat is jammer, want sommige van de beste witte wijnen zoals witte Bordeaux, witte Rioja en witte wijnen uit de Rhônevallei zijn eigenlijk blends van verschillende druivensoorten.

    Belangrijkste regio's voor witte mengsels

    Prestigieuze wijngebieden voor witte blends zijn de Graves regio van Bordeaux waar het traditioneel is om Sauvignon Blanc te combineren met Semillon en een kleine hoeveelheid Muscadelle of Sauvignon Gris. Andere belangrijke Franse witte assemblages zijn de witte wijnen uit de zuidelijke Rhône, met meestal een combinatie van Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, Clairette en Picpoul Blanc. In Spanje kan witte Rioja worden gemaakt van zeven toegestane soorten, waaronder Viura, Malvasia, Verdejo en Garnacha Blanca.

    Bijpassende gerechten voor witte melanges

    De beste witte wijnblends worden gemaakt in verschillende stijlen en bieden voor elk wat wils. Lichtere witte blends met hogere zuren, zoals sommige witte Bordeaux-wijnen uit Graves, passen goed bij verse zeevruchten, gegrilde vis en romige kazen. Zwaardere witte blends, zoals die uit Rioja, passen bij gebraden kip, rijke pastagerechten of risotto's. Er zijn ook zoete witte wijnblends, zoals Sauternes-wijnen uit Bordeaux, die goed passen bij fruitdesserts of blauwe kaas.
