    Zinfandel Wijnen

    Rode Zinfandel wijnen zijn meestal groot en krachtig met veel intense bramen-, pruimen-, donkere kersen- en bosbessensmaken. Zinfandelwijnen hebben meestal matige tannines, een hoog zuurgehalte en een hoog alcoholgehalte van 14-17% ABV. Deze wijnen worden vaak gedurende een langere periode in eiken vaten gerijpt om de alcohol en de tannines volledig te integreren. Van de Zinfandeldruif worden ook zoete roséwijnen gemaakt, bekend als White Zinfandel, die populair zijn in delen van Californië.

    Belangrijkste Zinfandel wijngebieden

    De beroemdste regio voor Zinfandel is Californië, waar de subregio's Napa Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley en Lodi allemaal uitstekende Zinfandel-wijnen produceren. Zinfandel komt ook voor in de zuidelijke Italiaanse regio Puglia, waar hij bekend staat als Primitivo. Uit onderzoek is gebleken dat Zinfandel genetisch vrijwel identiek is aan verschillende inheemse Kroatische druiven, wat erop wijst dat de druif mogelijk uit dat land afkomstig is.

    Zinfandel bij gerechten

    Dankzij hun intense smaakprofiel passen krachtige rode Zinfandel-wijnen uitstekend bij stevige rode vleesgerechten zoals gebarbecuede ribbetjes, runderkebabs, gestoofd rundvlees of rijke wildstoofpotten. Andere geweldige opties zijn kruidige gebraden lamsvlees, pastagerechten op basis van tomaten of gerijpte harde kazen.
