    Het Quartz Reef wijnhuis, opgericht in 1996 in de Centraal Otago regio van Nieuw-Zeeland, dankt zijn naam aan de kwartsafzetting die zich onder zijn wijngaarden bevindt en die de grootste is in het hele land. Het bedrijf bezit 30 hectare wijngaarden, waarvan 15 op een naar het noorden gerichte helling met dorre bodems van klei, fijn grind en kwarts. De andere 15 hectare wijngaarden die de druiven voor de Methode Traditionelle mousserende wijn produceren, bevinden zich op Waenga (fijne zandleem) en Molyneux (ondiepe zandleem) bodems.

    De Pinot Noir druiven, afkomstig van de Bendigo wijngaard, worden gedurende 19-24 dagen gemacereerd alvorens te fermenteren en 12 maanden te rusten in Franse eiken barriques. De resulterende wijn is een ware symfonie van smaken.

    Het is een elegante en tegelijkertijd toegankelijke Pinot Noir met intense aroma's van pruimen en kersen afgewisseld met kruidige tonen. In de mond komen de smaken van bosvruchten en specerijen weer terug. De tannines zijn rijp en de afdronk is lang en sappig. Het is de ideale wijn voor eend, varkensvlees en wild.
